Singing for Change Workshop at Weston Park Museum

Come and be part of the long tradition of singing to give heart and strength to protest and campaigns for change.

We are running a special workshop to coincide with the exhibitions organised by Sheffield Museums to celebrate the centenary of the Representation of the Peoples Act  (1918). Changing Lives: 200 years of people and protest in Sheffield is at Weston Park Museum from 6 February to 1 July 2018 and Hope is Strong  is at the Millennium Gallery from 17 February to 10 June 2018.

Sheffielders have been singing for change since the late 18th century and we are still singing today, whether it be to save our NHS or to protest against fracking.

Join Janet Wood and Sheffield Socialist Choir to learn songs which raise the spirits and promote camaraderie.  The songs will be inspirational and fun to learn. There will be no need for singing experience or the ability to read music.

The songs are designed to be sung in the streets and at demonstrations. They will be non party- political and will come from past and present campaigns and protests in Sheffield.

We will end the day by singing the songs around the Museum – maybe outside if weather permits!

Sheffield Socialist Choir is celebrating thirty years of singing for change in Sheffield in 2018.

Janet Wood is an experienced choir leader and an enthusiast for the power of song.
